China Glaze Loco-Motive vs. Sinful Colors Black Magic vs. NYC Rule The City Comparison

Hello my pretties, I am back hoping everyone is having phenomenal weekend.  Remember last year when Sinful Colors put out a LE shade called Black Magic with their Halloween display?  It quickly became super popular and flew off the shelves in a couple of days, never to be seen again.  I had imagined SC would add this shade to their Halloween display this year, but was a bit shocked to find that they are re-promoting Pumpkin Spice instead.  So last month when I saw China Glaze's All-Aboard Collection at my local Sally Beauty Supply (I shared Choo-Choo Choose You with you guys here) I initially passed up Loco-Motive, because it seemed like an exact Black Magic dupe to me.  The same thing happened when I saw NYC Rule The City from the Fall Fashion Queen Collection ( I shared NY Princess here).  In the end -of course- I went back and picked up both of them, and I swatched them side by side for you today!

The basic concept here is small and abundant gunmetal micro-glitter with more sparse orange normal sized glitter in a clear base.  Let's have a closer look at them on the nail:

In the picture above, I am wearing two coats of Loco-Motive on my Pinky and Middle fingers, two coats of Black Magic on my ring finger and one coat of NYC Rule The City on my index.  We can already see that NYC Rule The City is on a category by itself.  It does not have a clear base, but it's a gunmetal metallic foil with small orange glitter and gunmetal microglitter, this is definitely not a dupe.  Here's a closer look:

So, let's focus on the remaining two: CG Loco-Motive vs SC Black Magic.  I added a third coat to both just to make them pop a bit more, then topped them all off with one coat of Seche Vite.

These two shades are not dupes, but they are close enough that you probably don't need both.  Black Magic's orange glitters are a brighter shade of orange.

Loco-Motive has two shades of orange glitter, and two sizes in the gunmetal. 

China Glaze Loco-Motive

If you were one of the unfortunate souls who missed out on Black Magic last year, Loco-Motive is a close (though pricier) alternative.  Rule The City is a similar shade (same price range), but it's not a glitter polish.  I purchased Loco-Motive for $5.99 at Sally Beauty Supply, Black Magic for $1.99 at Walgreens, and Rule The City for 1.99 at k-Mart.
